How to Add Text-to-Speech Languages in Windows

Depending on your Windows version, you can install many TTS (Text-to-Speech) enabled languages (Voices) using Windows Settings (Control Panel).


Install a new Text-to-Speech language in Windows 10 and Windows 11

Please note: Windows 10 Single Language Edition and Windows 11 Single Language Edition may not allow installing new languages.

In Windows settings, you can download and set your speech language.

  1. Click the Start button, and then select Settings.
  2. With the Windows Settings in view, select Time & Language.
  3. Select Language, then select Add a language.
  4. Choose the language you want from the list. The language will begin to install.
  5. Go to Speech, and make sure the Speech language is set.
  6. Sign out and then sign back in for the new settings to take effect.

Install a new Text-to-Speech language in Windows 8.1

Please note: Windows 8.1 Single Language Edition may not allow installing new languages.

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Click Language.
  3. Click Add a Language.


Install a new Text-to-Speech language in Windows 7

Please note: Windows 7 language packs are available for computers that are running Windows 7 Ultimate or Windows 7 Enterprise.

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Click Region and Language.
  3. Click Keyboards and Languages.
  4. Click Install/uninstall languages under Display language.
