Vovsoft Desktop Diary is a handy journal application that enables you to lock your personal account with a password, preventing others from accessing your private data. You can use it to write your memories, as well as save important appointments. The main window includes a calendar that can be used to navigate between dates / entries, and the built-in search function can make this task even easier. The text can be formatted as you wish, by adjusting the alignment, inserting a bulleted list, numbered list or modifying the font's size, type and color. You can also insert images, switch between bold, italic, underline and strikeout using either your mouse cursor, or using the well-known associated hotkey combinations.
Multiple user accounts can be created, and it is not possible to access the stored information without first providing the right password. Additionally, the application allows you to create encrypted backups, so you can always restore your data if necessary. If you plan to move to a different computer, you can export the data within seconds, and importing the records can be done just as easily. Vovsoft Desktop Diary is an offline digital diary software for Windows, you are the only controller of your private data. No diary information is sent to internet in any case.

Reply For my personal use, this is PERFECT. If I need to store highly sensitive information, I’ll rely on tools like KeePassXC or Bitwarden. That said, I do have a few suggestions that would make this software even better:
• Theme Selection Needs Control:
Currently, changing themes feels completely random. Selecting “Change Theme” cycles unpredictably with no clear way to return to a previously used or preferred theme. A simple improvement would be a theme selection list (by name) or a settings window similar to Vov Sticky Notes, allowing users to preview, select, and switch themes intentionally.
•Custom Theme Support:
Even better—provide a settings interface where users can customize appearance (colors, fonts, layout) and save those configurations as reusable themes. That would elevate usability significantly.
•Password Storage (Registry):
Storing the password as plain text in the registry is outdated from a security standpoint. However, for my specific use case, this does not impact functionality.
For what I need—a clean, simple, offline desktop journal to organize notes and documentation—this application is absolutely ideal. It’s fast, lightweight, and does exactly what it’s designed to do without unnecessary complexity.
Huge thank you to Vovsoft for continuing to build straightforward, effective desktop software. In a world full of bloated subscriptions and forced cloud integrations, this is refreshing.

Reply Diary entries are stored as plain unencrypted RTF files in the users Appdata heirachy in a place that is EASY to find and each entry is an individual RTF file with a .DAT file extension that can be renamed to .RTF and opened in ANY RTF editor/viewer so has ZERO functional security, and what's claimed in some places as encrypted backups are just encoded RTF file data NOT encrypted. This should be re-thought out as to what it is really intended to do and diary entries should be encrypted right from the start and even better put in a real encrypted database where the key is derived from the username and password combination maybe an encrypted sqlite3 database and don't rely on obscurity for all your security as that is NO real level of security at all.
